April 17th - 19th:

The Cwm Dyli Hut was, as expected, very well equipped and comfortable and by the time the majority arrived the stove had been put to good use and a warm welcome was received by all. The weather did us proud and it was wall to wall sunshine for the whole of the weekend which clearly fired us all to the challenges of the mountains and the abundance of excellent climbs a challenge obviously relished by the quests accomplished including  - Gashed Crag on Tryfan (VD), Jingling Wall (HS) Bombers Wall (HS) Long Climb Direct (S) all at Clogwyn Cyran near Betwys-y-Coed climbed by Syd and Rod whilst the Rob team conquered Clogwyn Cyrau, Carreg Alltrem and climbs at the Llanberis Slate Quarries.

Chris accompanied by Bryan were engaged in climbing Tryfan via Bristly Ridge.  The less intrepid of us relished the challenge of Snowdon and varying routes offered on the Horseshoe, the Tickles completing the whole round. Mike P, opting out of climbing this time, also completed the Horseshoe, but in reverse to the others.

The Saturday evening meal was a feast prepared by Chris with stuffed peppers for starters, venison and chorizo casserole followed by apple crumble and the most disgusting custard any of us had tasted for which Lionel had to accept responsibility for but help was at hand, cream!

As a side show the valley was bristling with security guards who were keeping nosey intruders from observing the filming of an Arthurian Legend in which Jude Law plays the lead role, our attempts to enlist as extras to boost the Hut Renovation Works Fund were unfortunately firmly rebuffed.

Sainsbury almost came to a sticky end (again) having inexplicably managed to ford the nearby stream to the hut only to become marooned on a rock in the middle of it but was fortunately rescued by the intrepid Mike P who, some would believe, might have been responsible for putting the poor animal there in the first place.

Syd as our most seasoned attendee summed up the weekend as follows – “Weather was great, as was the catering, making it an excellent weekend” an analysis with which we all agree.

Attendees: Bryan Benton, Rod Brown (+ Sainsbury) Syd Goodier, Chris Goulden, Rob Peppit, Mike Peppit, Ed Sampson, John Skelton, Lionel Stout, Andy Tickle and Guests Ben Salussolia and Alex Tickle. A prominent non-attendee was Martin Clowes, his trip ended unceremoniously on the M40 when his previously reliable hybrid Honda gave up on him.

Leaders: Lionel & Chris G
